Company Description

Houston’s “best breakfast”, as ranked by USA Today, Good Morning America, and Zagat, will now become available to even more people with trucks to serve customers at food truck lots, festivals, and corporate catering events, as well as expanded service at The Breakfast Klub’s original Midtown location.

Founded in 2001 by Houston native Marcus Davis, The Breakfast Klub (“TBK” to its fans) has gained a national following for its uniquely rich, intensely flavorful food, served in a relaxed, community-focused atmosphere.

TBK Food Trucks will launch and operate 2 food trucks that will serve different audiences.

The Breakfast Klub has already built an incredibly successful business serving its local community. By expanding beyond the limitations of their physical location, they plan to expand that community throughout Houston and the broader region. Recently celebrating 18 years of operation, the restaurant has won the hearts of Houstonians, sustaining its impressive level of success and popularity. It’s hard to find a day of the week when there isn’t a line out the door with customers waiting for a table. Not only is the food recognized as some of the best in the city by local and national publications, the service and hospitality are unparalleled.

The first food truck will be a semi-permanent fixture outside of The Breakfast Klub and located directly in the Midtown location’s parking lot. The truck will provide a quick grab-and-go option for customers that can call in or order on the spot, allowing more customers to enjoy their signature food with a shorter wait time.

The second food truck will expand TBK’s reach through festivals and events throughout Houston and beyond. There are numerous opportunities available to The Breakfast Klub through the relationships and recognition it has garnered throughout the country over the past two decades.

The Breakfast Klub is ready to expand its business, and TBK Food Trucks is a strategic part of that vision.

Business Model

The Opportunity

The decision to expand into food trucks — typically a precursor to a successful brick and mortar business, rather than the other way around — came from owner Marcus Davis’ understanding that demand for The Breakfast Klub’s food was far greater than the people they were currently serving at the original Midtown location.

The Breakfast Klub’s competitive advantage in the booming food truck business is its pre-existing brand recognition and loyal fan base. Typically, the biggest hurdle facing new food trucks is brand recognition in a highly competitive market. Due to its high name-recognition and sustained demand, The Breakfast Klub will face no such obstacle when it comes to drawing customers to the new food trucks.

Business Operations & Cost-Saving Methodology

By leveraging the existing kitchen at the original location, TBK Food Trucks will have access to space and ingredients to prep much of the food that will be sold out of the trucks — eliminating the need and cost to rent a commissary kitchen space, as most independent food trucks do.

Houston also has a strong network of food truck locator websites, such as streetfoodfinder.com and roaminghunger.com, which The Breakfast Klub also plans to use to inexpensively advertise their trucks’ locations.

Revenue Streams

TBK Food Trucks plans to take advantage of the following revenue streams.

  • Additional sales from food truck lots, festivals, and corporate catering events
  • Accepting call-in and take-out order for customers during peak service hours (currently unable to accommodate due to limited capacity)
  • Expanded capacity to serve overflow traffic resulting from the ever-present wait lines during peak service hours
  • Sales of “TBK” merchandise such as t-shirts, signature seasonings, fish and chicken coatings, and waffle mix

The Menu

Both trucks will serve a limited selection of The Breakfast Klub’s menu, featuring all the fan favorite signature dishes.

  • Katfish & Grits
  • Wings & Waffles
  • Pork Chops
  • Red Beans & Rice
  • Katfish & Crawfish Ettoufee

The Atmosphere & Reputation

At The Breakfast Klub, customers are family and community is everything. For over a decade, “TBK” has been a community gathering place where Houstonians can share good food and conversation with friends and family of all ages.

Having been covered by and ranked as one of the best eateries in the country by outlets such as Forbes, Conde Nast Traveler, USA Today, Good Morning America, and countless local publications, The Breakfast Klub has become a media darling. Its high profile and popularity position the business well for media coverage of this expansion.

Between the company’s various social media profiles, The Breakfast Klub boasts over 115,000 online followers and email list subscribers, allowing them to easily get the word out to their target market of loyal fans on any given day.

Location Analysis

The first truck will be located semi-permanently at The Breakfast Klub’s existing location at 3711 Travis Street in Houston’s Midtown neighborhood so that customers can order its signature menu items to-go.

The second TBK Food Truck will move about town, serving lunch and late-night food in different areas on different days of the week, at local festivals, business parks, music events, as well as catering events that they currently don’t have the capacity to take advantage of.
