Next Up | Female Founders: Dallas Edition

Next Up | Female Founders Dallas – Recap from NextSeed on Vimeo.

After an outpouring of support in response to our inaugural Next Up | Female Founders event in Houston, the NextSeed team headed to Dallas in May 2018 with a similar goal: bringing the local community together to celebrate women entrepreneurs, in collaboration with our partners at Polsinelli, Trademark Property Company and Victory Park.

There are many problems to solve in ensuring that women get access to the same amount of capital as their male counterparts: only $1 in $23 in traditional small business loans go to women-owned businesses. But we firmly believe that a great first step is creating places for women entrepreneurs to connect, collaborate and inspire.

The event kicked off with a pop-up marketplace featuring over 20 vendors, including: A Joy Forever, Consume With Love, Cykochik Custom Handbags, Devilla Dallas, Endurance 4 Life, Finn + Remy, Frida & Chloe, Good Fibrations, Hair Remedie, Hard Night Good Morning, Kismet Jewelry, La Viajera, Magic Hour, R Beauty, Resoycled, Saucy Food Tours, Savvy Sleepers, Simply In Movement, Sorella/Words for a Season, Sun Luvin Roots, Symbology, The Greenway Shop and Tressed Studio.

As guests perused the marketplace and sipped on refreshments from Austin Eastciders and High Brew Coffee Company, DJ Wild in the Streets played an eclectic assortment of female artists on vinyl. Local artist Patricia Rodriguez of Tiger Bee Arts painted a live diptych incorporating themes of women empowerment as well as local Dallas landmarks. The mural was auctioned off later in the event, with all proceeds benefiting Dress for Success Dallas.

Guests then migrated to the stage area, where six incredible women – Kosolu Ananti of afrikoPOP Fitness, Deb Cano of Kessler Pie Co., Trista Carmouche & Shannon Couch of Tressed Studio, Marissa Heyl of Symbology Clothing and Michelle Silver of The Goat!s Revolt – pitched their businesses to a panel of expert judges.

The judges included Stacey Barton, Senior Leasing Representative at Trademark; Tillie Borchers, Director of Investments at Civitas Capital; Leah Frazier, FashionPreneur & Media Personality; Finity Jernigan, Consumer Products Attorney at Polsinelli; and Julie McCullough, Founder of Folksie, Harkensback & The Pin Show.

After an hour of pitches and Q&As from the panel, the judges and audience casted their votes…and Kessler Pie Company won a three-month pop-up at Victory Park and $5,000 worth of legal services from Polsinelli!

The Kessler Pie Co. pop-up is now open through the end of August at 2404 Victory Park Ln., Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am until 8 p.m.
